Anyone have any ideas for a new light fixture? This little dual spot light is not bright enough and is ugly.
I am thinking hanging something bright.

Something like this:

That’s about the fanciest mud room I’ve seen this week!

Definitely a small chandelier. Those dual spotlights are 80s fantastic.
Just got to HD/Lowes/etc and browse. I’m thinking you need about 1500 lumens in a dark area like that, maybe more. Something omnidirectional, not focused. It’ll make a huge difference.

Copy that! I have browed HD a few times and really do not like their selection. Also can confirm 80's house is very, very 80's.

That is no. Just no. I might as well hang a saddle from my ceiling .

Oppo advice. Checks out.

This house is made up of all four of the major wood groups.

It’s so ugly it’s actually kinda neat.
On a serious note I agree with A sh78.

I just like to see lighting in person, and those specialty lighting places can get pricey. Amazon stuff always ends up looking cheaper in person than in the pics.
If you have Homegoods, that’s a good place to score a deal, too. Save money for good bulbs, especially if you go with a dimmer.
Just took these - our eat-in kitchen with 3 dimmable 400 lumen LEDs. Lots of control over intensity:
Laundry room with a vintage style “bell jar” and a single 1600 lumen bulb. A little harsh, but bright.
Just some ideas...I love small chandeliers. Both were $50-$80 and look like they could be 3x the price from Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware.

A pendant with a bare large round pearl LED globe

That’s the best thing I’ve read all week.

Here’s my suggestion from Ikea:

And here’s my Walmart suggestion:

Ok that’s hilarious.

I was leaning towards a glass globe with an open bottom but it has to put out some more light than one 40 watt bulb. I want like a 150+ watt equivalent .

It’s true thou gh , fir, larch, ce da r, and hickory for the token hard wood.

I googled ugly chandeliers because I was going to try to be helpful. Now I’ve discovered that chandeliers that look like birdcages are a thing and I haven’t found anything for you at all.

I like #2 maybe with a bit more traditional glass shade.

Look up “corn led” bulb on ebay.
![]() 11/23/2018 at 18:14 |

Well then all you do is get something like a 13W/1000 lumen LED which is like a conventional 100W bulb... which should be plenty of light.
Something like this:

IKEA sells this light.
You can paint it to look like this.
I have zero useful lighting advice, but I take any opportunity to share this fact.

T hrow a tri plet of 100- watt -equivalent LEDS in either of these and it’ll be bright as fuck in that dark wood mudroom.

probably overkill, but you can never have too much light

It’s somewhat funny; whenever my wife drags me to ikea I have to join the line of grown men waiting to play with that light. Most make “pew pew” laser noises while pulling the string.

little spendy, and probably fewer usable lumens, and I also question how the geometric white shapes will l ook with the irregular wooden angles... But hey, it’s yer monies.

I would never buy the light I was amazed at the price

I hate those so much! They’re so painfully trendy but they leave really
stupid shadows all around the room.

SCIATA
(sputnik chandelier is always the answer)
I mean, all the bulbs, all the places, all the time.
(Serious answer: probably doesn’t go with the more cabiny feel of the doors and shingles
. Maybe something that also has
a lot more bulbage and a big shade? I like Ash78's suggestions for this space, TBH.
)
